Purple/Gavin- Narrative Designer

I am Gavin, the Narrative Designer for Mercurial. I was also the level designer for this project, and helped to make the scene of the game.
This project was very interesting for a Narrative designer because most, if not all, of the story wasn't even said in the project we released. However, we did still have the story made and we knew what we wanted. The main goal was to feel like an older more classic game from the retro 2d pixel graphics style, alongside ps1 graphics. I feel like we hit the nail right on the head, and made a project that has exactly what we're looking for! Fast paced gameplay that pushes the player forward at every direction. We made sure to incorporate that in the level design, with having a level that wasn't the biggest, but not being to small that it would feel unrealistic. We populated the areas with plenty of enemies, props, and textures that gave the place an uneasy feel.
The overall story of the game was that some sort of higher being found you being tested on in a lab. Scientists were trying to get information out of you, and use you. So it helped give you the power to escape, and it told you to kill everyone. Find your way out of the lab, and continue to kill before your body decomposes. Keep moving while you can so you can find the exit!
